Keep an ear out for Croon Harvest, soon to be broadcast on Resonance Extra. Curated and led by composer and conductor Jack Sheen, the programme will feature recent and new works by three composers – Olivia Block (US), Cassandra Miller (CA/UK) and Andrew Hamilton (IE/UK) – and takes Sheen’s eponymous Croon Harvest (2021–ongoing) as a central starting point.
For the project, Musarc was joined by MA students at the Royal College of Music and musicians from the Guildhall School of Music. The four works were recorded for Resonance Extra at an old Mormon Chapel which the station now runs as an event, rehearsal and performance space.

I am proud to present AA Files 78, which I have worked on as Technical Editor, and which was published just before the winter break.
It includes thematic sections on the Body, Cinema, Community, Environment, Home, Public and Territory, as well as a special feature on Jorge Otero-Pailos’ installation Ethics of Dust in Westminster Hall. Looking at a range of building typologies and histories from Pyongyang to Lusaka and beyond, it examines some of the broader contexts informing architectural practice, including timelines of ecological rupture, ways of measuring the human body and the emergence of privatised public space.
AA Files is edited by Maria Shéhérazade Giudici and designed by Sascha Lobe of Pentagram.

After five years as deputy editor of Disegno, I have moved on to a new position in the Architectural Association (AA) Communications Studio, where I will be assisting in the production of the AA’s books and journal of record, AA Files.
Disegno was my training as an editor and writer, and I’m very proud to have worked on it. The journal will soon publish its 30th issue and celebrate its 10th anniversary, having survived the ongoing aftermath of the financial crisis as well as a pandemic – no small feat for a long-form print publication. It’s an exceptional title which will continue inform, provoke, and inspire conversations about design, architecture, fashion and technology for many years and issues to come.
I’ve got a story out in the latest issue of Crafts magazine, exploring contemporary duodji, the material culture of the Sámi people. Head over the the British Craft Council’s website to find out more.

At the beginning of May, the V&A launched Pandemic Objects, an editorial project dedicated to examining everyday objects which have taken on new meaning during the pandemic. It’s looked at the loo roll, for example, and the cardboard box, door handle, and government letter. My entry is on convention centres.
There’s a new issue of Disegno out, which is frankly something of a miracle given the circumstances.
Some of the many excellent things in is issue: a piece about the history of São Paulo’s Casa do Povo, a Jewish community centre built by an acolyte of Le Corbusier in 1953; a photoessay documenting out-of-season Alpine ski resorts; an essay on what it means to see like a Mars rover; an in-depth look at the design of Japan’s prismatic medal games; an essay review of Eimear McBride’s new novel Strange Hotel; and much, much more.
I also have a story out in it, exploring the so-called digital wellbeing initiatives launched by tech giants in the past year or two. How well-equipped are the makers of our apps and devices to wean us off those apps and devices? The short answer is “not very“. The long answer can be found here.
